First, consider the Tok Pisin transliterations below. Can you word out what the words are? What is the difference between transliterations on the right and on the left?
Komitmen vs Amaunt
Gavamen vs Peint
Divelopmen vs Plent
Spelling rule: Tok Pisin spelling rule states that there should not be any consonant clusters at the end of transliterated words, but we have a problem.
Problem: If we remove -nt cluster at the end of the words on the right, we end up with meaningless words or words with different meanings.
Solution: To avoid confusion, Tok Pisin translators can use -nt consonant clusters only when removing the 't' will cause confusion and therefore render an unclear translation.
